After a two-year absence, the grand celebration of the region's iconic product returns with free tastings, creative recipes, and activities for the whole family.
The Pancyprian Kolokasi Festival makes a strong comeback in Sotira after a two-year hiatus. The 46th event will take place at Sotira Municipal Stadium, aiming to once again gather thousands of locals and visitors for a grand celebration of taste, tradition, and entertainment.
At the heart of the event is, of course, the renowned Sotira kolokasi (taro), a product uniquely linked to the region's agricultural production and culinary identity. Its cultivation is a significant part of local history, and since 2016, 'Kolokasi Sotiras/Kolokasi-Poulles Sotiras' has been registered as a Protected Designation of Origin product in the European Union.
During the festival, the public will have the opportunity to explore the various facets and uses of the product through free tastings. Traditional recipes will meet more modern and imaginative creations, demonstrating how kolokasi can be utilized in many different ways in the kitchen.
Professional chefs, cooks, food bloggers, and pastry chefs will present specially designed recipes featuring kolokasi. The program will include both savory and sweet options, offering visitors the chance to taste unexpected flavor combinations and discover the great versatility of this local product.
The event will also feature free experiential workshops, games, and activities for children, making it a strong family-oriented occasion. Additionally, organized groups from Sotira will operate stalls offering food, drinks, sweets, and various delicacies, contributing to a grand celebration for the entire community.
The evening will culminate musically with a performance by Nikos Makropoulos. The popular folk singer will take the festival stage to present a program of well-known hits and beloved songs, concluding this year's event with music, dance, and entertainment.
